How to ensure your goal-kicking success this new year

It happens every year.
The 1st of January ticks over and BOOM, it feels like a fresh start.
It’s the clean slate the New Year brings that inspires us and motivates us to take on new challenges and setting goals to achieve these!
With the 1st of January having been and gone, have you gotten a head-start on setting your goals?

What seems to happen to a lot of us though, is that as time goes by, and the motivation we had at the beginning of the year to achieve these goals dwindles. Eventually, the year has passed and you reflect and think, “what the hell happened?” It’s a vicious cycle.

Use these tips to keep that motivational high and stay to accountable throughout the year.
2020 is your year. Don’t waste it.

1. Create Habits

Something I have preached before and will continue to do so time and time again is the power of the 1%.
What habits can you build in your life that will lead to those 1% improvements? Those “1%-er’s” eventually add up.
Start small. For example, instead of starting a habit of 100 push-ups per day, start with 10 and build your way up using those 1% improvements.

2. Keep Motivation Up

It’s a no-brainer that somewhere on your journey you’re going to lose your motivation. It’s normal!

To avoid this, consider:

  • Education: Read books, articles, or watch videos! Whether they educate you specifically on (example fitness or business) or are simply a motivational tool, they will help you focus and reset.
  • Focus on the end result: As they say, ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’. Focusing on the end result adds purpose to the small steps you are taking every day to achieve your goal.
  • Connect: Surround yourself with like-minded people who have the same goals as you. Our Lifestyle Tradie community of savvy trade business owners is living proof that this works. It is a great way to find ‘your people’, build a support network, and make friends!

3. Stay Accountable

When you verbalise or publicise your goals to the people around you, you are far more likely to achieve your goals simply because you don’t want others to know you failed!

Chat to your friends, your partner, your family, your staff, a coach… the list goes on. Anyone who will help you SMASH your goals this year!

Your future is defined by what you do TODAY.
