It’s great to see tradies get acknowledgement… but this is certainly an interesting take (a good one at that!)…
Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) has declared August as Tradies National Health Month. With hundreds of thousands of tradies enjoying the outdoors, it comes at a price with one in five of all serious workplace injuries involving a tradie.
To be honest I’m not that surprised about some of the facts shared on their website…. facts like;
#1: ‘Every day, 10 tradies are badly injured at work’.
#2: 94% of tradies report that they don’t eat enough fruit and/or veggies.
As a massive supporter of looking after yourself (we are called Lifestyle Tradie), I love the fact they are highlighting health and wellness, even using Kyal and Kara from the Block as their ambassadors.
They’ve even done a number of quick short video tips to help prevent injury and prevent risk both at home and on the job site. You can check them out here.
But the one I loved the most was the downloadable resource called ‘Don’t Let your Phone Wreck Your Life’. Talk about a love/hate relationship. Can’t live without technology, but totally consume your life ALL THE TIME.
They cover some great ‘what’s okay’ and ‘what’s not okay’ when it comes to preventing a phone-related mishap.
For it even to be written highlights the importance we place on these devices… even prepared to fall down the stairs or trip thanks to texting or reading while you walk… or worse still, drive.
(you’ve done it too haven’t you!). You can find it here – scroll down the page to see ‘Fact Sheet-Mobile Phone’.
Thanks APA for your focus. To me, any excuse for a party! Who’s with me???

The Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) have created Tradies National Health Month to help provide valuable information for tradies on the importance of full body health and safety.
Tradies are among the highest number of injuries, musculoskeletal conditions and other health and safety risks of any profession evident in the Stop Trading Your Health Away report from 2014.
The APA felt that there was no dedicated support centre for tradies, therefore creating a month that focuses on trade full-body health and safety to improve their awareness and well-being.
Throughout August, the APA will promote health and safety tips and encourage tradies and trade companies to register to be a part of the Tradies National Health Month by holding Tradies Health events in their local jurisdiction.
