Here’s what this year has shown us tradies

What a rollercoaster of a year we’re all experiencing! Hold on to your toolbox, we’ve weathered a wild ride in these times of change (some of us more than others — here’s looking at you in metropolitan Melbourne and New Zealand). It’s easy to shout out: STUFF YOU, COVID!

BUT, all of this uncertainty has also provided us with clarity. As tradies in business, we’ve adapted to become COVID Safe — and when we step back and look at the situation — we’ve been pretty fortunate in the scheme of things. Here’s what this year has shown us tradies.

1. We’re essential

While many businesses have been hit hard with the various COVID-19 restrictions, tradies are considered essential services. So, for the most part, we’ve been able to keep working through the pandemic (with COVID Safe practices). It feels good to know the community values what we do.

While we’ve all learnt many lessons as business owners this year, what’s become loud and clear is that our skills can’t be replaced. Despite lockdown and other restrictions, emergencies still happen, which can only be resolved by a licensed and qualified trade professional.
Even though we’re bombarded with doom and gloom in the media everyday, it’s important to keep it all in perspective because we’re doing okay right now. With more people spending time at home, tradies are contributing to helping people stay safe and comfortable.

2. Camaraderie is keeping us going

For our Lifestyle Tradie community, camaraderie is keeping everyone going. Even though we can’t meet up in person at the moment, we’re all valuing regular virtual catch ups and virtual masterminds to nut out some of the challenges we’re having and also celebrating the wins.
If you’re not a Lifestyle Tradie member, you’ll benefit from having others in your corner. Being a tradie boss is a tough gig at the best of times. More than ever before, it can feel lonely. If you’re not sure where to start, why not connect with other tradies in business at our Kick-Ass Facebook group?

3. Back to business basics

Finally, while the world is ‘pivoting’ around us, working on new business models to make it through, as trade business owners, we don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Instead, going back to basics is your ticket to being in the best position in the future. Do you even have a business model?

For you to build an unbreakable trade business, you’re gonna need one. Here’s a sneak peek into the Lifestyle Tradie business model, which, as you can see, has the ultimate goal of creating the freedom you deserve.

Could this be a good time to get your business model right?
