Why wouldn’t you want to increase traffic to your site? Most websites don’t get nearly enough visitors, and without these visitors (otherwise known as ‘traffic’) your website is nothing but an expensive online brochure.
Traffic to your website can be compared to having a store. Having a store on a busy main road will ensure people will come in, have a look around, and potentially buy something. On the other end of the spectrum, having a store in a back alley will more often than not equal minimal visitors and minimal sales.
In website terms, more traffic = more sales. Why wouldn’t you want to increase traffic to your site?
We share our top 3 tips to increase traffic to your website:
1. SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)
Your domain name is essentially the name of your website, aka the words that follow the “www” in your website URL. More often than not, the domain name of a website is simply your company name. However, most company names don’t actually relate to the business’s operations… this is where your potential downfall with SEO can be.
We’ll use our own trade business as an example… Our own plumbing business name is Dr. DRiP, it doesn’t explicitly state that we are a plumbing business. This can make it difficult for new customers to find us as they don’t know our business name yet.
To curb this, and increase traffic, we analysed what keywords people search for when looking for a plumber and created multiple ‘sister’ websites. Like ‘Chatswood Plumber’. A “keyword” is simply a word (or string of words) that someone types into a search engine to find more information.
2. Content marketing
Content marketing (or blogging) is having content on your website that provides value to your potential customers. They need to have learnt a lesson, seen a great idea or gained something of value from your information. An example of this could be an electrician having a blog post on their website describing different types of light-bulbs and the environmental impact and longevity benefits of each.
Remember, it’s important the content is written to match what your customer wants to hear about.
This content can drive large amounts of traffic to your website, and here’s how you can do it:
- Post this content on your website.Make sure you have keywords in both the headline and body copy.
- Post relevant content weekly so the ‘spiders’ of Google pick up keywords that relate to your industry and/or product/service and hence feature you more frequently as an organic listing. This is great for your SEO and doesn’t cost you a cent!
- Share this content to social media; Use short-text describing the post with a link back to your website to generate the most traffic. The content will ‘pop-up’ on your followers news feeds and if they interact with it, the sites algorithms will potentially place it on their network’s newsfeed too. Sites like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Instant free marketing!
3. Utilise Facebook advertising
Placing an advertisement on Facebook will not only give your business exposure. It is also a great cost-effective way to market to your exact target audience. You can then set-up a Facebook audience with these exact specifications, for example, your target audience could be all females living in the Eastern Suburbs over the age of 30. By doing this, you can guarantee your ideal customer is viewing your advertisements, clicking through to your website, and potentially booking a job!
Ultimately, getting more traffic to your website doesn’t have to be expensive. There are plenty of free (or affordable) options! These three clever ideas are only the tip of the iceberg in relation to how you can increase traffic to your website, but a great place to start. That is our challenge to you. Which one do you plan on working on first? Action speaks louder than words. Let’s get doing!
