6 ways to motivate and reward your trade business employees

Think back to a time where someone told you “you’re doing a great job”.

How did that make you feel?

Awesome, I bet.

That’s why it’s so important to provide your trade business employees with rewards when they’ve done a good job.

This recognition makes your employees feel good about themselves, motivating them to keep up the good work in the future.

So what simple (yet effective) rewards can you give them?

1. Treat them to lunch

Treating your employee to lunch is a great way to reward them, and it’s also the perfect opportunity to catch up.

Choose a local cafe or let them choose, invite the whole team or just invite the employees being rewarded, it’s up to you.

2. Gift cards

Why spend money on a present that your employee might not like or use when you can give them a gift card? That way, they can buy something they genuinely will use!

More value for them and less hassle for you!

3. Company apparel

Giving your staff company mugs and notebooks can be an easy way to reward them. However, you can improve these rewards by purchasing ‘left of centre’ branded gear, for example, company portable phone chargers or picnic sets.

If you’re unsure of what your staff might enjoy, ask them!

4. Company recognition

Show your employee your appreciation by recognising them in your newsletter, an email, and at your staff meetings.

5. Provide education opportunities

This might seem like an odd reward but this is actually quite beneficial for an employee. Particularly admin employees.

For example, instead of the employee doing 5 days worth of tasks, give them 4 days worth of tasks and then the opportunity to learn skills related to the industry on the 5th day.

Win for you, win for them!

6. Offer an afternoon off

On days that may be quieter, rather than finding work for your employee, offer them the afternoon off!

7. Added responsibility

Rewarding someone leadership on certain tasks or the responsibility over certain projects shows them that you believe they are fully capable and trust them.

It demonstrates to them that you think of them as an important asset to the business and will overall increase their loyalty to you!

Ultimately, these are just a few examples of rewards that you can utilise to keep your staff motivated and happy. But at the end of the day, your company culture and leadership will play a massive part in keeping staff happy.
